Facial Aesthetics

Facial implants are specially formed solid, biocompatible materials designed to enhance or augment the physical structure of your face. The precise type and size of implants best suited for you requires an evaluation of your goals, the features you wish to correct and your surgeon’s judgment.

There are two particularly important substances — collagen and hyaluronic acid — that play important roles in keeping facial skin looking smooth and supple.

  • Collagen is a protein that provides skin with structural support, while
  • hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume.

As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin diminish, the skin loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear, like those “parentheses” lines around your nose and mouth.

Other lines, like glabellar lines (the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows which often look like the number “11”), are formed by repeated and involuntary contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows. As the skin becomes less elastic, excessive contraction of these muscles may cause visible, deep wrinkles between the eyebrows to form, even when the face is relaxed.

We offer top-shelf products from Allergan such as Botox and Juvederm that truly can compliment ones’ appearance.

Facial Implants

01.

Chin implants can increase the size and projection of a chin that does not project in proportion with the forehead and mid-face. A small or recessed chin can also be described as one that seems to disappear into the neck of an individual of normal weight, rather than appearing as a distinct facial feature.

02.

Mandibular implants increase the width of the lower third of your face. Much like the chin, a weak jaw can be thought of as one that is not well-defined and distinct from the neck, or one that slopes rather than angles from the ear to the chin. In some cases, both the chin and jaw can contribute to facial imbalance.

03.

Cheek implants increase the projection of the cheekbones or midface. They add volume to areas which may be recessed or flat.

04.

If symmetry among facial features is part of your goal, facial implants may be recommended to augment more than one facial region. It’s important to remember that all of our faces are asymmetric to some degree and your results may not be completely symmetric. The goal is to create balance and proportion.

Botox

Individuals who are concerned about wrinkles, especially on the forehead and between the eyes, can turn to Botox treatments as a way to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Many people find that they look happier and less stressed when they get Botox treatments because it relaxes the muscles that were tightening to create wrinkles.

Botox was originally developed to treat undesirable muscle twitches in the eyelid. When injected, it works by keeping the muscles in the area from responding to brain signals that are causing them to contract. The same theory applies to Botox treatments made for cosmetic reasons. Wherever the injections are made, the treatment relaxes the muscles, making you less prone to furrows.

The process of getting Botox treatments is a simple one, with the injections taking just 10 minutes to complete during an office visit. Patients do not need anesthesia and do not feel much, if any pain, at the injection site.

Botox recipients start seeing results within a few days, and the effect increases until about two weeks after the injection. At this point, the treatment maintains these results for about three months before facial muscles begin to return to their usual sensitivity. Many patients return for treatments on a regular basis to maintain results.

Botox is very safe, with minimal side effects. Some people experience bruising or take longer than the usual few days to see results.

Dermal Fillers

Lines and wrinkles form in the face for many reasons. A lifetime of facial motion and sun exposure as well as a genetic predisposition all contribute. Depending on the area of the face and the type of wrinkle involved, a particular type of injectable may give you an amazing result.

Soft tissue fillers are injectable gels that provide more volume to the face and the hands to smooth the appearance of wrinkles and folds. There are many types of fillers and we can help you determine which is best for you. Treatments are recommended every 6-12 months for optimum results.

Juvéderm™ injectable gel is a next-generation dermal filler. It is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially those around the nose and mouth, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds: the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

Over recent years, hyaluronic acid has emerged as what some call a “miracle compound” for filling in wrinkles and facial contouring. New studies show how crossed-linked hyaluronic acid promotes collagen deposition in the deeper part of the skin, which helps thicken the skin and provide more longevity. Meaning, it temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face that feels very natural.

Juvéderm™ is a hyaluronic acid in the form of viscoelastic gel, which is transparent and homogeneous. That gives it four major benefits:

  • It is obtained by bacterial fermentation and is of non-animal origin
  • It does not require prior skin testing
  • It is highly biocompatible

Based on your specific needs and desired results, you will be treated with one of the following formulations:
